As we continue our Grief and Poetry series, this week’s reflection centers on how emotions can shift between sorrow and gratitude. The poem “Vibrations High” explores the natural fluctuations of grief—how it can bring us to a low frequency of sadness but also lift us to a high vibration when we focus on love and cherished memories.
Research from Stanford University supports this concept, showing that gratitude is a key factor in raising our emotional frequency. While loss may feel overwhelming, intentionally reflecting on the love we shared with those we’ve lost can uplift our spirits and bring comfort in the most difficult moments.
Vibrations High
By Patricia Freudenberg
Vibrations high, frequencies low Why, oh dear, did you have to go? Here today, gone tomorrow Now my heart is filled with sorrow.
Wait one minute, now I see The treasures of you in my heart’s memory. I call your name, I hear a chime Hope one day, right on time.
Before I sleep, in the night, Your love still shines, a guiding light. The echoes of laughter, the warmth of your face, Lift my soul to a higher place.
The past is near, though time has flown, In every lesson, I’ve surely grown. I feel you now, in the whispering air, A love so deep, beyond compare.
So when my heart is feeling low, I think of you and let love flow. Through gratitude, I rise above— Forever held in endless love.
This poem reminds us that grief does not erase love—it transforms it. By embracing gratitude, we can shift our focus from pain to appreciation, allowing the legacy of our loved ones to continue through us.
