Absolute State: A State of Being

Absolute State: A State of Being

In the fast-paced rhythm of life, we often find ourselves striving to reach distant goals, a metaphorical “point Z.” We set our sights so far out that we can lose our sense of direction, straying from our initial path, or even worse, becoming stuck in a place we never intended to be. Sometimes, we’re anchored to the past, trapped in what feels like a point of no return. Yet, as an end-of-life coach, I have learned the beauty of embracing history and memories, honoring them through the legacies we create. Legacy, which I refer to as the seventh stage of grief and recovery, serves as a testament to those who came before us, allowing their influence to live on even as we continue to move forward.

However, while it is important to honor the past and set our sights on future aspirations, it is equally vital to reconnect with the present—the here and now. The absolute state of being is this very connection, a grounding presence that invites us to return to “point A.” It is a state of awareness, where we can limit the overwhelming thoughts of what’s next or what has been, and instead, focus on the step we are currently taking. One step at a time. One day at a time. One moment at a time.

When faced with stress, whether triggered by external circumstances or the inward pull of anxiety, it is natural to feel disoriented, overwhelmed, or even lost. While I am not a medical professional, I can relate deeply, as a fellow human, to these experiences. We all encounter moments when life seems too heavy to bear, when the future feels uncertain, and the past seems to tether us down. Yet, in those moments, there is a way to return—to come back to the absolute state of being.

One of the simplest and most effective ways to do this is through breath. A conscious, deliberate breath, especially inhaling through the nose, serves as a bridge back to ourselves. This act, often overlooked, engages the higher consciousness, bringing us a sense of clarity and calm, even if just momentarily. Each breath reminds us of our existence, of the present moment we are living in, and gently nudges us toward the awareness that we hold the capacity to dream, to plan, and to project happier thoughts and attainable goals.

Being in an absolute state does not mean dismissing the past or neglecting the future; rather, it is about finding balance. It is recognizing that while the past has shaped who we are, and the future holds possibilities, the present is where we have the power to breathe, to pause, and to choose. It is where we can heal and grow, one breath at a time. This state of mindfulness allows us to see that our journey does not have to be rushed, nor does it have to be flawless. We simply have to be present, to take each step with intention and grace.

So, if you find yourself overwhelmed or lost, remember to breathe. Return to this absolute state—a state where you are not chasing after a distant goal or reliving a moment that has passed, but simply being. Let this practice become your guide, helping you navigate life with patience, purpose, and peace. By returning to point A, you give yourself the freedom to start anew, to make progress at your own pace, and to craft a legacy that reflects not just your aspirations but also the quiet strength of your present being.

I hope these reflections help you reconnect with yourself, to embrace the simplicity of being, and to find the strength to move forward, one mindful step at a time.
