Dare to Spare

Dare to spare, Some time and space, To give yourself emotional grace.

Let the tears fall, let them flow, Like rivers where the sorrows go. No need to rush, no need to hide, Emotions ebb, like the shifting tide.

Storms may rise, fierce and wide, Winds of grief you cannot guide. Yet through the waves, both high and low, A captain’s strength will always show.

Steady now—breathe, just be, A moment of stillness, wild yet free. No map to follow, no course too strict, Let your heart sail, let your soul convict.

Dare to spare, to let grief be, And trust the tide will set you free.

Poem – Patricia Freudenberg

Sentiments: The Captain of Your Grief

Grief is an ocean—at times still, at times raging. When loss arrives, it can feel as if we are merely passengers being carried by uncontrollable currents, lost at sea. But even in the midst of sorrow, we must remember: we are still the captain of our ship.

Emotions will come in waves—some will be gentle ripples, while others may feel like a tempest threatening to capsize your spirit. But every navigator knows that storms do not last forever. You don’t need to explain your grief or justify the depth of your sorrow. It is yours to feel, yours to process, yours to endure.

Yet, while grief has its storms, we must navigate through, not drown within. We are in the land of the living, and our journey must continue—slowly but surely. Dare to spare yourself the patience, the grace, and the space to feel what you need to feel. You are allowed to sit with your sorrow, but you are also allowed to chart a path forward—one small step, one gentle breeze at a time.

Grief does not ask us to rush. It asks us to acknowledge, to endure, and when we are ready—to sail again.

With compassion and remembrance, Patricia Freudenberg
