Life often feels like a game of “Red Light, Green Light.” We get stuck in routines, fears, and obligations, forgetting that we hold the power to control when we move forward and when we stop. This post is about giving yourself permission — permission to pause, to act, to change direction, and ultimately to live a life that aligns with your true self.
Green Light: Permission to Take a Break
In a world that glorifies constant hustle, it can feel like giving yourself a day off is a radical act. But, just as a car needs fuel, your body, mind, and soul need time to rest and recharge. When you give yourself permission to rest, you’re acknowledging that your well-being matters. This is a transformational step, one that begins with you telling yourself, “I can take a day off,” and believing it. You’ve just pressed the green light, initiating movement toward self-care.
Green Light: Permission to Take Charge
Life isn’t always about waiting for the right moment; sometimes it’s about creating it. There is power in deciding to take matters into your own hands. When you give yourself permission to act, you’re embracing your role as the captain of your own ship. This mindset allows you to steer your life’s direction, confidently navigating through the ups and downs.
Green Light: Permission to Create a New Narrative
We all carry stories within us, but not all of them serve us. Some narratives may be born out of grief, guilt, or past experiences that we never fully processed. By giving yourself permission to rewrite your story, you’re setting the stage for transformation. Your past may have influenced you, but it doesn’t define you. Like an object in motion that stays in motion, once you start moving toward a new narrative, you’ll gain momentum that drives you closer to the life you want.
Green Light: Permission to Accept What Cannot Be Changed
Acceptance is often seen as giving up, but it’s actually a powerful step toward peace. It’s recognizing that there are things in life we can’t control, and that’s okay. By giving yourself permission to accept what you cannot change, you are no longer fighting against the current. Instead, you’re flowing with it, conserving your energy for what you can control. Acceptance doesn’t mean you like what’s happening; it simply means you’ve chosen peace over resistance.
Green Light: Permission to Let Go of What No Longer Serves You
Holding on to things, habits, or even people that no longer serve you can weigh you down. When you give yourself permission to let go, you’re not losing anything; you’re making space for new, positive experiences. Imagine a ship weighed down by unnecessary cargo — it can’t navigate properly, and it risks sinking. Letting go is the act of lightening your load, so you can sail forward with clarity.
Permission is the Key to Transformation
Giving yourself permission is the first step in transforming your life. When you tell yourself you can, you’ve already set things in motion. Like an object in motion that stays in motion, this simple act creates momentum. However, it’s equally important to recognize when momentum is taking you somewhere you don’t want to go. Momentum can carry you forward to success, but it can also lead you down a path toward failure if unchecked.
Green Light Go, 1, 2, 3 STOP
Just as important as the green light is the red light. You are allowed to stop. You are allowed to pause. Sometimes, we need to give ourselves permission to stop and reassess, to make sure the momentum we’ve gained is still taking us in the right direction. When you feel like life is spiraling out of control, remember: you have the power to say, “Stop.”
Be the Captain of Your Life
Life is your journey, and you are the captain. You decide when to press the gas pedal and when to hit the brakes. Owning your power to give yourself permission means reclaiming control over your life’s direction. It’s about knowing that every choice you make is yours, and every step you take or don’t take is done with intention.
From My Perspective as a Certified End-of-Life Coach
As someone who guides people through grief and recovery, I’m not a medical professional, but I do have a deep understanding of the emotional journeys we all face. My goal is to help you navigate through the storms, to find your inner strength, and to shine a light on the paths that may seem dark and unclear. Emotional equity — that is the power you own and have the potential to tap into. It’s your ability to find balance, even when life feels chaotic.
I strive to be a catalyst for light and healing. I want to help you understand that even if the healing is temporary, it’s still for the greater good. It’s so you can live your legacy while you’re still here, in the land of the living. Permission is a mindset. It’s about preparing yourself for success, even if you might fail. And even if you happen to fail, you are failing forward. You are failing while striving, while taking action, while doing something about it. Each failure becomes a step closer to success, inevitably leading you to where you need to be. You have the power within your capability.
So, Green Light Go! Give yourself permission to live fully, to rest when needed, to take action, to accept, to let go, and to pause. You are the captain, and it’s time to take the wheel.
