Grief Recovery Series: Certified End-of-Life Coach Perspective
What is real? And what is imagined?
Inspired by Eckhart Tolle’s powerful work, “Touching the Eternal”, today’s reflection invites us to explore the delicate line between reality and illusion—especially in the context of grief.
There’s an old saying: “Energy flows where attention goes.” In grief, this couldn’t be more true.
When we are newly grieving, we often remain in survival mode. But when we are ready—ready to begin recovery—this is when we gain the ability to shift. To consciously decide where we place our focus. While we cannot bring our loved ones back into the physical realm, we can keep them alive in memory, imagination, and legacy.
Yes, you can still imagine their voice. Yes, you can still reflect on what they would say. Yes, those conversations in your mind are real—because you are real.
But now—let’s go deeper.
Let’s redirect the focus from them… to you.
You are here. You are alive. You are in the land of the living.
And this is your invitation to live a life to be remembered.
When we shed the illusion that we can’t go on… When we challenge the belief that this is “the end” of who we are… We reclaim our truth.
This is where transformation begins.
Because illusion is not always the enemy. In fact, illusion can be the catalyst that awakens you to your new reality.
In this in-between space—between pain and purpose—we discover the legacy we are meant to live out loud.
Prompt for Reflection
Ask yourself today: What illusion am I ready to release—and what new reality am I willing to create? Write it down. Speak it aloud. Let your attention go there. Energy will follow.

Final Sentiment
Reality or illusion? Perhaps they are not so different after all. One simply precedes the other.
